£500 PRIZE DRAW
Mr Akamul Islam of The Little India restaurant in Peckleton makes the draw on New Year's Eve for the £500 winning ticket in the Peckleton Action Group prize draw.
The proceeds of the draw will be used to help pay for independent experts to assess the acoustic and environmental data in the expected private planning application for wind turbines to be situated on land lying between the villages of Peckleton, Desford, Kirkby Mallory and Newbold Verdon.
Mrs Angelina Thorne (pictured left) of the Peckleton Action Group explained: "Local councils do not normally have the in-house resources or experience to check whether the vast amount of data put forward by wind farm companies has been collected correctly and whether the interpretations they make concerning noise and other types of environmental impact are completely objective. Councils also face huge cuts everywhere to their resources. Local residents are therefore raising funds to have the application scrutinised by independent experts. I don't know whether that's part of the Big Society idea, but it's not clear how else expertise not connected with the applicant can be brought in to examine the proposal in detail."
The winning ticket was purchased by a resident of Peckleton (prizewinner details are available on written request to the promoter at 50a Main St., Peckleton).
